Free record check · Full report $12 · No account needed

Found an old stock certificate? Find out what became of the company.

We search public records, including SEC filings, for the company's renames, mergers, buyouts and bankruptcies, quote a source for each step we find, and tell you whether the certificate is likely worth something and who to contact.

  • Free check, then $12 for the report. No answer, no charge.
  • Sources quoted so you can check them yourself.

Check your certificate for free

We confirm whether we hold, or can find, a record of the company. It takes about a minute.

We keep a copy of the photo for our records.

The free check finds the company's record. The full report, $12 and charged only if we find an answer, explains what became of the shares. We don't appraise certificates.

How it works

  1. Check for free

Snap a photo or type the company, state and date. We confirm we can find the company’s record. The free check doesn’t say what the certificate is worth.

  2. Order the report

Your card is held for $12, not charged. Research starts straight away.

  3. We trace and double-check

We follow the company from one change to the next, quoting a source for each step. A second pass checks the sources, then a person reviews the report.

  4. You get the answer

By email, with a private link. If we can’t find an answer, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

Every report ends in one of four answers

Each report also says what one share became at each step (exchange ratios, cash per share, splits), who to contact to cash in or re-register the shares, and when to search a state's unclaimed property records.

We never put a dollar total on your certificate. The company's transfer agent confirms what your shares are worth today; our report tells you what to ask them.

Answer · $12

Likely has value
The company still trades under another name, or a buyout left cash or shares you can still claim, possibly now held by a state unclaimed property office.

Answer · $12

Likely a claim, amount unknown
We found what happened, but the terms of an old buyout or exchange are only in archives we can’t reach yet. The report tells you who to ask.

Answer · $12

Likely no value as stock
The shares were cancelled with nothing paid, or the company was liquidated or dissolved. The paper may still interest collectors.

No charge

No answer found
We couldn’t find a reliable answer. You pay nothing, and the report lists what we searched.

Common questions

I’m settling an estate. Is this the right place to start?

Yes. The report tells you what the company became and who handles the shares today, usually a transfer agent or a state unclaimed property office, which is what an executor needs to act.

Will you tell me a dollar value?

No. We tell you what one share became at each step. The company’s transfer agent confirms what your shares are worth today, and our report says what to ask them.

When is my card charged?

Only when the report reaches an answer: “Likely has value”, “Likely no value as stock”, “Likely a claim or amount unknown”. “Likely no value as stock” is an answer too: we found what happened, and the shares are no longer worth anything. Until then it’s a hold for $12. If we can’t find an answer, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

How long does it take?

It depends on how much the company changed over the years. We email you a private link as soon as your report is ready.
